PROVINCIAL Sports Coordinator Anthony Carlo Agustin felt grateful as the week-long Abanse Negrense Free Online Sports Mentoring Program ended over the weekend.

The 6-day event kicked off on July 12 and was able to register 452 coaches, student-athletes, sports leaders, and sports enthusiasts in Negros Occidental and many parts of the country.

“I would like to thank all the participants who joined this week-long activity. Without your support, this event won’t be successful. I also thank all the speakers and the staff of the Provincial Sports Office,” Agustin said.

“This is not the end rather the beginning of a program like this, and we are hoping that you will continuously support this endeavor. We have lots of learning from this program but, keep in mind that we have the responsibility to share what we learned with others,” he stressed.

“I appeal to each and every one of you to continue your passion in sports. Let’s become the beacon of hope to the younger generations, “ he said. “Things will get better soon. Let’s move forward together as one sports community,” he added.

Meanwhile, among the speakers who shared the exercises that can be done at home, as well as some of their secrets in winning tournaments are Brian Martir (arnis), John Carmona (football), Leo Romitman (chess), Jay Biñas (badminton, Aden Nietes (boxing), and Elvis Atinado (basketball).

Those who also joined the webinar and shared some thoughts in their respective events were NM Xavier John Verdun, Asian Badminton Confederation Development Officer Ian Gil Piencenaves, 4-time division world champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, Philippine Junior and Youth team coach Gerson Nietes, 2020 Tokyo Olympics boxer Eumir Felix Marcial, SBP-Negros Occidental head referee Benny Lachica, 2010 PBA top pick Nonoy Baclao, and professional basketball players Pao Javelona and Jeffrey Manday.

The event was a way to show that the province of Negros Occidental under Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson is trying to find ways to deliver its sports program and services to the people on any platform available.

The sports webinar was organized by Abanse Negrense in partnership with (STA) Sports Turismo Alliance and SCOOP Bacolod.
